Mopti - the Venice of Mali - Sarah Hickson's Blog
There’s a great cafe in Mopti called the Bissap Cafe in the heart of the port area. From our table on the first floor terrace we have an expansive view across the river, the larger boats across the water barely visible in the glare of the afternoon sun.

We happily spend a couple of hours here, watching the activity below - salt vendors on the pavement grinding down large blocks of salt, women selling smoked fish, boats being loaded with merchandise, furniture, food, goats and sheep (their legs tied and wrapped in sacking), and endless deals being negotiated.

Tripadvisor - Flavor of Mopti !
Bissap cafe is a great restaurant . Very well decorated , lot of attention to all details. The lamps are made in salt ,and there is craft everywhere .its contemporary malian style .Very clean .And the owner ,friendly dogon Ali ,doesnt let salesmans, or tour guide harrassing the clients like in so many other places of mopti ,when u can sit in peace .
.Downstairs u can eat into the dinidng room , into the small bambou garden ,and upstair under hatch roof terasse u se the port and all of its activities .but the best is the extensive menu car , u can eat european food (some tourist want that ! ) and plenty of tasty traditionel local dishes .I enjoy the raw thin filet of the fish capitaine ,marinate with locale beries . served very cold is delicious . The best are the sorbet : :bissap (juice of hisbicus plant ) , mango , lime , pineaple .To die for . And a mango milkshake is perfect on hot day .The bar has a wide range of drinks , wich is rare outside Bamako .The staff are just adorable .My best meal in west africa .
