Centre Culturel Frédéric Beigbeder, Djenné

Residing in a majestic mud brick building just outside Djenné, the Centre Culturel Frédéric Beigbeder (better known as 'the Sandcastle') hosts a wide range of cultural events and residential workshops in order to share Malian culture, arts and crafts with the rest of the world.

The complex includes an art gallery, a restaurant, a concert cafe, a market hall and a pleasant garden. Accommodation is available in the guesthouse or in a traditional touareg style tent.

As a visitor you are offered a unique opportunity to live as a local and discover everyday Malian life. In return, the community profits from your presence — a substantial part of the profit is spent on teaching children and adults to read and write. This is what we call fair, responsible tourism.
